Wedding Questions

There are lots of wedding photographers and, when there are so many to choose from, deciding  who you would like to photograph your wedding can seem like a bit of a lottery.  I have included  a few of the questions you might want to consider and some information that I hope you find helpful.

What should we look for in a wedding photographer?

When choosing your wedding photographer it is essential that you find someone that you can relate to. The photographer will be present all day, mixing with you and your family and friends and the best results can only be achieved if you feel relaxed around him or her and not distracted or uncomfortable. You should always look at a photographer’s work to see if their style is something that you could imagine for your own album. A good indicator of this is if you can see yourself in the style of images presented. This is why a pre-booking meeting is so valuable.

Do you offer a free pre-booking consultation?

Yes. Your wedding day is one of the biggest events of your life and it is essential that you find a photographer that you can relate to and share your day with. If you don’t it will show in your photos! The initial meeting gives us a chance to get a feel for each other and begin to form a relationship so that by the time your wedding day arrives you are able to relax and enjoy having your picture taken.

How do we choose between photographers based on price?

The short answer is – don’t!

There are lots of reasons why some wedding photographers will charge a lot and others comparatively little for their services. A long established wedding photographer with a great reputation can charge a higher price, and still get more bookings than he or she can handle. A photographer may be shooting weddings part-time and so can afford to be selective as to which commissions are accepted without constant reference to profit margins. Some photographers may be more concerned with market share and turnover than service levels and so may price their products accordingly. Wedding photography is about more than what happens on the day itself and you should consider the portfolio of images, quality of album offered and the level of professionalism of the photographer when comparing prices.

Do you provide written terms of engagement?

Yes, if we agree for me to photograph your wedding I will prepare a written contract setting out to details including price, date etc. This ensures that the main terms are clear and understood by all concerned. Your wedding day is very important to you and me. Anything that is important to the day should be confirmed in writing so that you can be confident that your hopes and expectations will be met. I will provide you with clear terms of engagement to read over and you should only sign and return these to me when you are ready to go ahead and secure your date.

How much time should be set aside for our wedding photographs?

This very much depends on you, your plans for your day and the number of group shots you require. As part of my preparations I will look to visit your chosen venue at least twice before your wedding day. We will then have a pre-wedding meeting at which I will provide a schedule and we can confirm the shots that you want to have taken. This helps to ensure that any time set aside for photographs is well-used and does not impact the flow of your day for you and your guests.

Do you offer a price list online?

Each wedding is unique and trying to offer one price that fits every occasion is impossible.  Instead I prefer to talk with you and provide you with options based on your plans for your day and what you hope for for your photographs.  This allows your wedding package to be customised to your needs.  Please use the Contact page if you would like more information or to arrange a meeting.

What areas do you cover?

I live in Kirkcaldy, Fife but love to visit new places and often travel throughout the country (and abroad) to take photographs. Although I live and work in central Scotland I would be delighted to talk to you about photographing your day wherever your ceremony will take place.

Do you offer a pre-wedding shoot?

Yes, if you would like one. I want your wedding package to be right for you and so, if you would like a pre-wedding lifestyle shoot, this can be included. Sometimes this can help relax a nervous bride or groom and let them feel more comfortable with the camera on the day itself.
